His greatest fear was failure.

“What if my business doesn’t work out? What if I’m not good enough? What if people laugh at me?”

These questions played endlessly in his mind, paralyzing him from taking that first step.

As the years went by, Eloka settled into a comfortable but unfulfilling job. He watched others succeed and wondered what they had that he didn’t. Deep down, he knew the truth, the fear of failure was suffocating his dreams, keeping him from taking risks and following his passion.

Then one day, he met a wise old entrepreneur who had faced his own share of setbacks. During their conversation, the old man shared a piece of advice that stuck with Eloka:

“The fear of failure is the only barrier to success. Every successful person has faced failure, but they didn’t let it stop them.”

That encounter changed everything.

What has kept you from chasing your dreams?

Leadership has not been spared. Instead of serving the people, many leaders focus on appeasing their tribes or rewarding party loyalists. Key positions are handed out based on loyalty rather than merit and qualifications. Ironically, while citizens cry out against nepotism and corruption, some still perpetuate the same divisions when given the chance to lead.

The results of these actions are visible all around us. Years of misplaced priorities have impoverished the nation. Resources are misallocated, public service has weakened, and loyalty to tribe and political affiliation outweighs competence. Many citizens, disillusioned, flee the country in search of a better life—often facing deportation and uncertainty abroad.

Yet, I hold on to hope. I pray for the day when a true leader will rise—one who places the nation’s interests above tribal and party supremacy. A leader who plants seeds of unity, nurtures cooperation, and leads with integrity instead of lies and division.

My dream is of a country renewed—where every tribe is part of a vibrant tapestry woven together with mutual respect. Where our shared energy is channeled toward building strong governance, recognizing that the seeds planted today determine the fruits of tomorrow.

For me personally, the best legacy isn’t measured in material wealth but in values: truth, integrity, kindness, compassion, and good moral character. These are the things that stick with people. Webster’s Dictionary defines legacy as “something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor, or from the past.” That definition makes me pause because it means every choice we make, every habit we form, and every value we uphold is shaping what we pass on.

Of course, not all legacies are positive. Some families pass down harmful patterns—things like alcoholism, violence, or disrespect in relationships. Imagine a child growing up watching their father constantly insult their mother; without guidance, that child may grow up thinking that’s just how marriage works. On the other hand, positive legacies—like caring for the vulnerable, celebrating milestones together, or showing kindness in everyday life—create cycles worth repeating.

I was reminded of this recently when I read a story on Nairametrics.com about the GIG Group. The company was founded in 1998 by Edwin Stella Ajaere. Sadly, he passed away in 2009. His son, who was only 21 at the time and studying Economics in the U.S., came home to continue his father’s work.

What struck me was how, just a year later, he completely transformed the business—introducing online booking, digital payments, and other innovations that helped the company grow even bigger.

That story left me with a few takeaways:

• Family values and traditions are worth protecting.

• It’s important to intentionally create a clear vision for the future.

• The responsibility of safeguarding the lifestyle and values a family has worked hard to build.

• The necessity of instilling morals, traditions, and a sense of identity for generations to come.

• A strong succession plan ensures that what one person starts doesn’t end with them.

At the heart of it, legacy is not about perfection, it’s about intention. We need to be deliberate about the values we’re passing on, both in our families and in our communities.

But behind the confident words, there was a quiet struggle.
Most nights, he lay awake with a knot in his chest, wondering how he’d get through the month. His salary barely lasted a few weeks. Still, rather than finding ways to earn more, he filled his evenings with motivational videos, waiting for some invisible hand — an investor, maybe — to discover him.

Meanwhile, his colleagues were adapting. They knew the truth: in a time of rising costs, survival required more than hope. They were taking free online classes, learning skills that opened the door to remote jobs. They invited Onyi to join them countless times. But his answer was always the same:
“I’m not ready yet.”

Months passed. Then, one afternoon, Onyi bumped into an old friend — one of those who had once tried to pull him into a seminar. The friend looked different now. Confident. Successful. He was earning well from remote work.

They chatted, and the friend smiled as he said, “Remember how we used to dream big?”

“I still dream big,” Onyi replied.

“That’s good,” the friend said. “But dreaming big is only the seed. You have to water it with action. Desire without discipline? It’s like a car without fuel — it’s not going anywhere.”

Something about those words hit differently. For the first time, Onyi really asked himself: What have I actually done to claim the success I keep talking about?

That was the day something shifted. He finally understood the truth:

It’s action, discipline, and consistency that turn dreams into reality.

Yet, even in difficult times, opportunities emerge. Challenging situations often reveal gaps in the market that agile, creative entrepreneurs — especially the youth — can fill. Here are a few areas worth exploring:

• Necessity-Based Businesses
  Affordable goods and services that meet basic needs will always have demand. Examples include street food, affordable meal delivery, or home-cooked food services.

• Second-Hand Sales
  Selling used clothing, furniture, electronics, cooking utensils, and electrical fittings can meet demand for quality items at lower prices.

• Skill Monetization
  Turn what you already know how to do into a business. Whether it’s tailoring, graphic design, tutoring, or repairs, your skills can become a source of income.

• Educational Resources
  Collect and resell old textbooks to families who cannot afford new ones — a service that supports education while meeting a real need.

• Small-Scale Farming
  Ventures like poultry farming, fishery, or vegetable gardening can generate income and provide affordable food options locally.

• Waste-to-Product Innovations
  In tough economic times, waste management often suffers. This creates opportunities to recycle or repurpose waste into useful, sellable products.

When the economy is struggling, people actively look for affordable, reliable, and locally sourced alternatives. If you can solve a real problem in your community — and are willing to put in the effort — you can build a thriving business even in hard times.

Over time, I began to feel trapped. I couldn’t always use my salary in the way I wanted. One particular incident made this painfully clear.

My mum was robbed one day, and she sent her driver to inform me. After he left, I wanted to give him some money to take back to her—but I couldn’t. My sister-in-law, who is older than my husband and very educated, happened to be visiting. She noticed I was upset and asked what was wrong. I told her the whole story, adding that the worst part was not being able to send any money to my mum.

She looked at me and asked, “But you’re working, how come you don't have any money?” I explained that my husband (her brother) and I shared a joint account, and he had told me there was no money available at the time. Without hesitation, she advised me to reconsider the arrangement.

I didn’t know how to bring it up with my husband, so I suggested a compromise: we would each contribute 10% of our earnings to the joint account while keeping our individual salary accounts separate.

I’m sharing this experience for the benefit of young women who might find themselves in similar situations—especially if they feel financially powerless to handle personal matters. A joint account can make it easier to manage shared expenses like rent, utilities, and groceries, and it can promote transparency in a relationship. But if not handled with clear boundaries and understanding, it can also lead to frustration and conflict.

• Set realistic goals – Establish goals that align with your values, such as contributing selflessly to the good of society.

• Seek guidance – Speak with someone who can help you develop a practical plan for improvement. Be patient, as change takes time. Focus on small, steady progress rather than expecting an immediate, dramatic transformation.

• Practice gratitude – Remind yourself of the positives in your life and cultivate a habit of gratitude.

Similarly, storing anger within ourselves is like keeping acid in a vessel—the longer it stays, the more damage it causes internally. Anger can be deeply harmful to our well-being.

I recently came across Lynda Hudson's work on controlling anger, which I believe is a valuable resource for parents looking to teach their children how to manage their emotions. It’s important, especially in light of recent events, to understand the importance of emotional control.

On July 15th, a tragic incident occurred in Tennessee where a 12-year-old was charged with murder. She was accused of suffocating her 8-year-old cousin over an argument about an iPhone. The entire incident was caught on a security camera, showing the older child using bedding to smother her cousin as she slept in the top bunk. According to District Attorney Frederick Agee, the juvenile even attempted to clean up the scene and reposition the victim’s body afterward. It's deeply unsettling to consider how a child of that age could engage in such behavior and even tamper with evidence.

Incidents like this underscore the dangers of a lack of boundaries and exposure to inappropriate content. When children are allowed to watch violent movies or consume content that normalizes unethical behavior—such as pranks involving tampering with food—it can have serious consequences. Even if these pranks are meant as jokes, they send the wrong message to our youth, potentially desensitizing them to harmful actions.

Content creators have a responsibility to emphasize that such behavior is unacceptable in real life. By promoting responsible conduct online, they can help shape a positive and ethical environment for the younger generation.

Finally, it is crucial for parents, teachers, and religious leaders to actively teach children how to manage their emotions, respond to others with kindness and patience, and build emotional resilience. By doing so, we can guide our children to become compassionate and understanding individuals who are not controlled by anger.

I decided to write on this issue because it is very easy for our focus on Jesus Christ to waiver when faced with challenges in life which makes it easier to get caught up in the overwhelming situation and begin to sink in despair.

Truly, these shifts are very real, but the good news is that when we recognise it, we should redirect our gaze back to Jesus and things will start to fall in pleasant places for us.

First, we should recall all the marvellous things God has done for us. It’s important to acknowledge the blessings in our lives, as they can easily be taken for granted. Good health is one of our most precious blessings, yet we must recognize that it isn't solely within our control.

Life is unpredictable, and unfortunate events can occur despite our seemingly perfect health, which reminds us that it is ultimately a higher sovereign power that offers protection and guides our lives.

I recently visited a longtime friend who had faced numerous challenges in life. She had always been a dedicated worker, eagerly taking on any task that came her way. However, she was going through an especially tough period. She had lost her job and, soon after, the love of her life, leaving her feeling lost and disheartened.

In a desperate attempt to distract herself from her overwhelming grief and depression, she took up farming and began baking various confectioneries. These activities were her way of coping, and she focused on them to stay strong for her only child.

One day, while browsing social media, a headline caught her eye: "How I Overcame Adversity and Found Happiness." Intrigued, she clicked on the link, which led her to a personal blog. As she read through the blog, she found herself captivated by the author’s story. It was then that she realized the profound impact words could have on people.

With renewed determination, she decided to take her hustle in a new direction. She ventured into blogging, understanding that through her writing, she could connect with and empower others more effectively. Before long, she began receiving comments, messages, and emails from people deeply moved by her words. They thanked her for sharing her experiences, for inspiring them, and for reminding them that they were not alone in their struggles.

We all face struggles and challenges that seem insurmountable at times. However, we can transform our hardships, disappointments, and successes into sources of hope by sharing our stories. In doing so, we can illuminate the paths of others and offer them the encouragement they need to persevere.

Understanding the benefits of meditating on God's word, I chose to write about this topic because I struggle with it myself. I often find it challenging to focus due to distractions like noise and worries, causing my mind to wander. My main concern is how to overcome these distractions and concentrate on reading and meditating on God's word so I can apply it in my daily life.

After years of hardship, Nkem decided to juggle multiple jobs, such as cleaning people’s houses and gathering empty plastic bottles to sell to those who needed them. This supplying of empty plastic bottles fuelled her desire to learn how to produce liquid soap locally and sell it in the village market. The villagers preferred her soap because it was cheaper than foreign ones and foamed better.

As she made money, Nkem decided to improve her soap-making skills by learning new ways to produce high-quality soap. By doing so, she outsmarted her rivals and always stayed one step ahead. Nkem's resourcefulness and determination eventually caught the attention of investors who were impressed by her problem-solving mentality. She secured funding and scaled her business, becoming well-known in the soap-making industry.

Finally, my advice is that people should take advantage of their broke situation and start creating something which can add up over time.

When the results came back, they revealed that my heart and chest were perfectly healthy. However, the blood test indicated a bacterial infection caused by Helicobacter pylori, commonly known as H. pylori. This bacteria is often transmitted through direct contact with an infected person. I was prescribed medication to tackle the infection.

Before these tests, I had been suffering from bloating, nausea, vomiting, and frequent burping. Then, alarmingly, I started noticing blood in my stool. My mind immediately jumped to the worst possible scenario. I shared my concern with my daughter, who wisely urged me to see a doctor right away. The doctor recommended a fecal immunochemical test (FIT). Another doctor suggested I undergo both a colonoscopy and an endoscopy to get a clear picture of my bowel health.

At this point, fear gripped me. What if it was cancer or some other dreadful disease? I contemplated skipping the tests, but my daughter’s words resonated with me: "Mummy, it's better to detect an ailment early." Convinced, I went through with both procedures and was told to return for the results in three days.

The day of my follow-up appointment, I was a bundle of nerves. My mind raced with "what ifs" as I sat in the waiting room, sweating and anxious. Recognizing some fellow patients from the day of my procedure only heightened my anxiety. When the doctor finally called me in, my heart was pounding. I said to myself, "Enkay, whatever it is, God will sort it'.

I entered into the office and sat down, closely watching the doctor's expression as he reviewed the results on his computer.

"How are you today, madam?" the doctor asked.

"I’m fine, doctor," I replied, though I was anything but.

He looked at my results and said, "Your tests show inflammation in your bowel. I’ll prescribe medication for you to take for one month."

"Doctor, does this mean I have cancer?" I asked, bracing myself for the worst.

The doctor laughed, "No, madam. You don’t have cancer, not even a trace."

Relief washed over me as I left the consulting room. I was overjoyed and immensely grateful.

I’m sharing my story to emphasize the importance of medical tests and investigative procedures. Many Nigerians avoid these tests out of fear of bad news, often turning to unverified herbal remedies instead. Digestive problems are increasingly common, and we must be vigilant about our diets and health. Remember, early detection and proper diagnosis are crucial for managing any health condition.

Often, we usually do not realise how our actions impact our expenses. There are little ways I have adopted to conserve electricity in my home which I am going to be sharing with you.

Sockets in the house are always neglected and it a way of wasting electricity, we might think it does not matter but they continuously draw electricity as long as they are on. Make a habit of switching off security lights, corridor lights during the day to save energy.

Encourage your children and members of your household to adopt energy saving habits, which means that they have to put off all electrical appliances when not in use

Enjoy natural light and fresh air in the day. Where possible reduce the use of air-condition. If possible, consider investing in energy-saving appliances like LED bulbs.

Frozen foods should be brought out early enough from the freezer so that it will thaw before it is needed and it warm within a few minutes in the microwave or on your cooker or stove. If you use a washing machine, use teh washing function only and dry your clothes outside in the sunshine, instead of using a drying machine.

Others emphasise that holiness involves both moral purity and a sense of separation and dedication. In this view, holiness involves living a virtuous life and being committed to a specific set of religious principles.

In the Christian context, it is a state of moral and ethical purity that reflects the character of God.

In conclusion, holiness is not so much achieved through our own efforts, but it is received as we are new creations in Christ Jesus.

Holiness is part of who we are in Christ Ephesians 4:24, and we are invited partakers and share of Jesus's Holiness Acts 2:10

God is holy, and He calls us to come to Him and share from His Holiness 1 Peter 1:16

Online trolling, cyber bullying and spreading false information has become a norm in Nigeria and has severe consequences for the targets involved, leading to psychological distress, damage to personal and professional relationships and even loss of employment opportunities.

However, individuals harmed by online defamation of character can sue the person or group of people responsible for the defamatory content. The burden of proof typically lies with the plaintiff who must demonstrate that the statement made are false and has caused harm to his or her reputation.

It is also important for individuals to be cautious when using social media, refraining from spreading rumours, engaging in personal attacks and sharing unverified information. It is equally important for social media users to raise awareness about the harmful effects of online defamation and promote a culture of respect online.

Ultimately, even though the law can play a significant role in addressing online defamation, it also requires a collective effort of both individuals and society as a whole to create a safe and respectful digital environment.

As the days went by, my early morning walks became easier and my stamina increased. I would wake up excited for my morning routine and would eagerly step outside, ready to conquer the day. The feeling of the cool air against my skin and the peacefulness of the morning brought a sense of peace and tranquillity to my mind.

During my walks, I would often encounter other early risers. Sometimes, we would exchange a friendly nod or greeting, acknowledging our shared dedication to starting the day on a healthy note. It felt like a small community, all united by our commitment to our physical and mental well-being.

One of my favourite aspects of my early morning walks was observing and appreciating nature. The trees were filled with vibrant colors, and the sweet melodies of birds filled the air. It was a reminder of the beauty and wonder that surrounded me, even in the midst of our bustling city.

Occasionally, I would see someone walking their dog, and it would bring a smile to my face. I admired the bond between humans and animals, and the pure joy that radiated from them as they explored together. It reminded me of the simple pleasures in life and the importance of companionship.

Despite the initial exhaustion that I experienced during my first few walks, I soon realized that the benefits far outweighed the temporary discomfort. Not only did I experience increased energy throughout the day, but I also noticed improvements in my overall mood and mental clarity.

Reflecting on my early morning walking experiences, I am grateful for the opportunity to prioritize my health and well-being. The sense of accomplishment and fulfilment that I feel after each walk encourages me to continue this routine. Walking has become more than just physical exercise; it has become a source of happiness, peace, and gratitude in my life.

However, there are parental control tools designed to help parents monitor and manage their children's use of technology like the YouTube kids app which which can enable parents decide what content to make available for their children to watch. Set a timer to control screen time, block videos and channels.

Consequently, there are specific ways that can help to promote digital wellbeing which can prevent issues such as social media addiction, Internet bullying and children been exposed to harmful contents such as;

1. Setting limits on screen time and also encourage children to take breaks from technology.

2. Controlling the types of content children can access online.

3. Try to have conversations with children concerning their online activities.

4. Educate children on online safety and also how to be responsible citizens

The above suggestions can help children navigate the digital world in a safe and healthy way

But perhaps what's even more troubling is the impact all of this is having on our society, especially on our children. They're growing up in a world where lies and deceit seem to be the norm, especially on social media. It's heart-breaking to think that they might see this as an acceptable way of life. We need to do better. We need to teach them the values of honesty, integrity, and hard work. We need to show them the importance of building strong relationships, of coming together as a community, instead of tearing each other apart with division, favouritism, and greed.

The pace of infrastructural development is painfully slow. It feels like progress is moving at a snail's pace. Our government, at all levels, needs to prioritize the well-being of its people. We need better roads, better schools, better healthcare, and above all, better security. These are the building blocks of a prosperous nation, and yet they seem to be constantly pushed to the back burner.

We can't just sweep these issues under the rug anymore. Corruption, inequality, social injustice—they're all part of the fabric of our society, and we can't ignore them if we want to build a brighter future for all Nigerians.
