Steps to Digging Deep Into God's Word
Begin with prayer by thanking God for His blessings and awesome creation which you can see in everything He created in trees, rivers, oceans, different weather etc.
Worship God in praises and worship songs, read devotionals and podcasts with scriptural readings.
Thank God for daily living and ask for help, forgiveness, insights and wisdom
Find an area in your home to be your personal retreat area. In my bedroom I have a corner towards the wall area where I designated as my retreat area with everything I need like reading glasses, notebook and pens of different colours and markers too to reduce distractions.
Select the book or passage, I will suggest starting to read the Bible from Genesis to be able to understand how the events of the Bible took place rather than random reading.
Know why the passage was written. Understand who wrote the scripture, why it was written, and to whom. In this way you can apply the scripture into your daily life. Remember, you are digging deep into the Bible to understand how the world began and all the events that happened to the coming of Christ, this will enable you to apply the scripture in situations that may arise in your life. Psalm 119:130-- "THE UNFOLDING OF YOUR WORDS GIVES LIGHT, IT GIVES UNDERSTANDING TO THE SIMPLE".
Write down your observations, there are things you may not understand as you navigate through the Bible. Simply write them down to study them deeply later, by doing so you will understand what the text is saying about God, and what God is saying to you through his word.
TAKE THE STUDY PERSONAL: Ask yourself "where does this passage play out in my life, in my environment, in my place of work or in your school (in case you are a student). For example in Acts 1:8--- "but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and samaria and to the ends of the earth". Try to personalise the above scripture by asking yourself how you have been doing in spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ both at home and abroad. By personalising every passage you will be able to apply yourself to the word of God daily. God's word is alive and active. Ask God what he wants to change in you through his his word. Hebrew 4:12 "for the word of God is living and active sharper than any double edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
PUT THE SCRIPTURE INTO ACTION: At this stage look for practical ways to live daily according to the scripture, granted this is not easy but try.
PRAYER: Close your study with prayer and thanksgiving. Thank God for revealing himself to you and acknowledge the access you have to him through the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ. Finally, ask God to help you live according to the principles of the scripture through the help of the Holy Spirit.
Build yourself up spiritually by meditating in the word of God, we must understand the value of the word of God.
